Guidelines for Residential / Visiting devotees


Anaalaya Buddhist Meditation Centre is dedicated to devotees who follow, Noble Eight Fold Path and Practice holy life.

Centre is managed by the dedicated people that follow the same path. They will assist you to the best of their ability for you to follow the Eight Fold Path and reap the fruits of holy life.

Centre management expect devotees to follow the following guidelines to help you as well as to help others to practice holy life.

  1. Should not visit / enter the centre after 9.00pm unless it is a prior arrangement.
  2. Gate will be opened only after 5.00 am. unless it is a prior arrangement. Morning Tea will be ready by 5.30am, breakfast by 6.30am, lunch by 12.00noon, dinner by 7.00pm for the devotees. (This may change depending on the program schedule) Kitchen will be closed by 8.00 pm. It is recommended that dinner should be completed by 8.00 pm so staff could do the cleaning. (Please be mindful they have to start work the following day early morning).
  3. Residential devotees must book in room or bed before arriving.
  4. Only agreed number of personal should come in for accommodation. Ex: If five people are booked only five people should come.
  5. Reimbursement of maintenance cost of electricity, water & other expenses are to be accounted at the rate of Rs 1,300/- per day. Maximum number of occupants per room is four.
  6. Reimbursement of maintenance cost of electricity, water & other expenses are to be accounted at the rate of Rs 2100/ per day for AC room. Maximum number of occupants per room is four.
  7. Reimbursement of maintenance cost of electricity, water & other expenses are to be accounted at the rate of Rs 700/- per day for 2 persons room. Maximum number of occupants per room(2p) is two.
  8. Male and female Dormitory accommodation are free of charge. Checkout time is 12.00 noon and checking time is 2.00 pm For all residential devotees.
  9. All residential devotees should bring in personal linen for beds / pillows etc.
  10. Should maintain the silence all the time so other devotees are not disturbed. Always maintain silence. Don't bother others. Dress appropriately for a place of worship.
  11. Please be mindful to keep the hand phones in silent mode.
  12. Should clean respective areas / rooms that is being occupied since there aren't any cleaning staff. Toilet use; Always keep clean. Rinse the residue thoroughly with water. Inform the office if there is no water in the commode or the water is running continuously. Instructions for that are also mentioned in the toilets. Do not put materials such as plastic bags down the toilet. Please note that this kind of activity causes inconvenience to all of us.
  13. Use water in restricted manner and make sure that drinking water is for that purpose only. Water use; As the amount of water available to the center is limited, water management is very important. ABMC needs a lot of support for that. Drinking water, use for drinking water only. Take washing water only from water pipes reserved for that purpose. Beware of leaking faucets and toilets. Please notify the office if they cannot be disconnected.
  14. Use of electricity; Switch off unused electricity bulbs, fans etc. when not in use. Today everyone knows that electricity is very expensive. So please remember to turn off light bulbs and fans when you leave the room.
  15. Garbage is segregated at the point of generation. Waste should be disposed only in to bins provided according to waste type. Put the waste in the proper bins, for example, put the left over in the container with the left over. Place the paper in the designated bins.
  16. Use of food; Share only as much as you can eat. Support us by reducing food waste. If so, consider that it is very easy for us to do cooking to the required extent. Remember that we depend on the charity of others. Clean used dishes and cups after use and put them in the basket only.
  17. Refrain from bringing valuables. It is your responsibility to look after your belongings.
  18. Hand back room keys to care taker at the time of checkout.
  19. On non-retreat days devotees are responsible for preparing their meals. Meals should be prepared in the Centre kitchen. Gas electricity and kitchen utensils will be provided free of charge.
  20. It is the responsibility of the devotee to do the shopping or make his or her own arrangements.
  21. Due to waste disposal constraints please refrain from bringing food items and water packed in plastic containers. Eg: yoghurt, bottles (water bottles etc).
  22. The use of the ABMC center should be restricted to meditation programs only and should not be used for other purposes. Examples: Viewing scriptures, performing or talking about various rituals, exorcism, etc., popularizing them, performing medical treatment (Western or local) without informing the management of Analaya Center, popularizing them, collecting or asking for money for various activities. Avoid using the center for such activities. ABMC will not be held responsible for improper results if the above matters are not followed. Only Visuddhimagga Meditations should be done here.
  23. Due to Covid or other unforeseen situation management may have to change rules without prior notice. For Ex: Residents should not go out on pilgrimage once they get in. All non-essential movements should be stopped during the meditation period. (this will help to maintain the samadhi as well) Please discuss your requirements with management.
  24. Parking should be done in the car park during meditation periods
  25. It is expected that this facility will be used only for the spiritual development and as such devotees should make use of the time for participation of the retreat and therefore go out of the ABMC after the retreat where possible. If it is essential to go out for any reason, should sign the book for in and out.
